WELCOME ADDRESS

Dear guests and future participants,

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to a new edition of the EANS Microvascular course. We are living in a timespan when vascular neurosurgery is turning its eyes and coming back to the microvascular techniques and the need for a proper, structured, time-intensive microvascular course is needed.

In this respect, we have prepared 4 days of intense hands-on microsurgical training, with 1-on-1 mentoring and all the microvascular training techniques with continuous improvement using tips and tricks.

We would love to welcome you in November in the beautiful city of Cluj-Napoca, with a long-standing tradition in microsurgical course. The skills lab facility as well as the expertise of the faculty, both local, foreign and EANS will provide you with all the tools you need in order to go back to your own center and set up a microsurgical continuous training environment.

We look forward to welcoming you in November!

Prof. Torstein R. Meling
Course Director

Dr. Victor Volovici
Course Director

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is my great honor and pleasure to announce a new edition of the EANS hand-on course organized in Romania, taking place in Cluj-Napoca, under the auspices of the “Iuliu Hatieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, between 9th and 12th of November 2023. We kindly invite you to join us at this landmark course in our center.

Klausenburg, Kolozsvar, Cluj-Napoca – three different names describing the same center of culture, education, science and progress. A city where the medical school was founded in 1774, as faculty of Medicine-Surgery during the reign of Maria Teresa. You may note that in this city we have a continuous medical education for almost two and a half centuries, a tradition that cannot be underestimated. We are proud to present ourselves as a University in which tradition is successfully completed by contemporaneity. While the walls of our hospitals and amphitheaters elude history, the constant rush of diverse students and the continuous development of modern facilities, research laboratories ensure constant and diligent progress in the footsteps of our predecessors.

The Neurosurgical Department from Cluj-Napoca is a young one, being founded in the fall of 1949. Despite being less than 75 years old, our Department covers all the neurosurgical pathology from the entire region, from simple cases to complex vascular or skull-base or spine ones, including pediatric pathology. We have more than 20 residents in constant training and perform over 2700 surgeries per year.
Through the facilities and equipment we have at our disposal, the experience of more than 25 years of microsurgical hands on courses conducted by Professor George Dindelegan, we consider that our center is the perfect cradle for an EANS course. Concentrating on the present, for a better future, while never forgetting about the past.

This course was born out of our collaboration established with Erasmus MC Rotterdam which began with our, now classic, Neurosurgical Masterclasses, in 2013. The link was established through Dr. Victor Volovici, who finished his medical studies in Romania and went on to train in The Netherlands. Training to improve, while not severing roots with his native region.

We hope that you will join us in November for the latest microvascular EANS course to be hosted in our city.

Prof. Dr. Ioan Stefan Florian,
Course Co-Director
Head of the hosting department of Neurosurgery, Cluj

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Announcing the fourth edition of this course from the EANS, taking place in Cluj from 9-12 November 2023. The course will be a complete microvascular experience, and include teaching on all types of anastomoses as well as experimental microsurgery, by those involved in microsurgical research as well as the big names you might expect, and our sterling EANS faculty.

VENUE

The Simulation and Practical Skills Center at the “Iuliu Hatieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy offers great learning opportunities and training in all levels of medical practice for most fields. The overriding aim of the Centre is to improve safety for both the patient and the medical act.

The newly developed simulation-based education and medical practice allow for the correct clinical skills and behaviors to be achieved in an organized structure, under competent instructor supervision, on a well established schedule and, which is very important, bearing no risks for the patient.

Progressive exposure of the beneficiaries (undergraduate and postgraduate medical professionals) to various challenging aspects of the medical profession, similar to real-life situations, will contribute to reducing errors and increasing the quality of the medical act.

Complex, interdisciplinary scenarios allow team training and crisis management.
